The 4th annual Biotechnology Olympics is a joint initiative of the Technion and the Ministry of Education. The Olympics is intended for biotechnology students who submit a final project that is sponsored by an academic institution with practical experience for the students. Phase 1 students from all over the country entered Phase A of the competition, of which about 25 students advanced to Phase II, where they presented the research paper.
Five students qualified for the finals, including Erez Shachar, an Israel Sci Tech Avin School student in Ramat Gan. Erez presented his research paper on the resistance of the genetically engineered transgenic plant against the ZYMV virus to the judging panel and won the honorable third place.
