NEW MICROBIOLOGICAL FILTER TO CLEAN OIL PARTICLES OUT OF WATER IN DESALINATION PLANT
HAIFA, ISRAEL – What could possibly link the Polish Aqua-Life desalination company and a group of Israeli high school students? On Feb. 23rd, three students from the Psagot Sci-Tech School in Northern Israel will present a microbiological water filter they developed with Aqua-Life at the “Young Engineers” Conference in the Israeli Technion Technical Institute.
Aqua-Life approached these students and commissioned the water filter to be used at their desalination plant in Nigeria. The company needs a solution to the oil pollution clogging the water of the Niger River. The students – have approached the project with professional fervor and they have been working diligently on the project in cooperation with researchers and technicians.
They will present their filter alongside a variety of hi-tech student projects, including a helmet developed with the Israeli Air Force to monitor pilots, a computer program to allow mute students to participate in the classroom, and a mobile phone app that alerts users of cardiac irregularities.
The conference is sponsored by the Israel Sci-Tech Schools Network that specializes in bringing the best scientific and technological educational opportunities to Israeli students from the fringes of society, be they Arab, Jewish, Ultra-Orthodox or from the periphery.
